Loss of AREG offsets the difference in PICD of adult and neonatal monocytes. PBMO and CBMO were infected as described in Figure 1. Neutralization of AREG was started 1 h prior to infection and was maintained during cultivation. Hypodiploid nuclei representing apoptosis induction in uninfected and E. coli-infected monocytes were analyzed by using flow cytometry.
