Cytokine release of runners with different levels of energy intake (EI). TNF-α (a), IL-1β (b), IL-6 (c), IL-8 (d), and IL-10 (e) plasma concentrations of runners within different levels of energy intake were evaluated. The runners were divided in 3 groups in accordance with energy intake: relative energy deficiency, <30 kcal·kg-1 FFM·day-1 (14 runners); low EI, 30-45 kcal·kg-1 FFM·day-1 (14 runners); and adequate EI, >45 kcal·kg-1 FFM·day-1 (16 runners). The values are shown as of of 8-17 runners. vs. <45 kcal·kg-1 FFM·day-1 and vs. <45 kcal·kg-1 FFM·day-1.
