Molecularly Distinct NLRP3 Inducers Mediate Diverse Ratios of Interleukin-1β and Interleukin-18 from Human Monocytes

Release of IL-1β and IL-18, induced by ATP, chitosan, or SiO2 is strictly NLRP3 inflammasome dependent. The concentrations of released IL-1β (a) and IL-18 (b) were measured from LPS-primed THP-1 monocytes with functional NLRP3 inflammasome (wt) and inflammasome-deficient THP-1 cells, lacking either functional NLRP3 (-/-NLRP3), ASC (-/-PYCARD), or caspase-1 (-/- CASP1) following stimulation with ATP, chitosan, or SiO2. Controls were treated with LPS alone. Data are shown as from six individual experiments. NS: nonsignificant. .
