Endangered Lymphocytes: The Effects of Alloxan and Streptozotocin on Immune Cells in Type 1 Induced Diabetes

STZ short-term diabetogenic effects promote alterations in immune responses in vitro and in vivo. Mice were immunized with OVA, and 30 days later, T1D was induced as described in Methods. Fifteen days later, (a) antigen-specific paw edema was induced by footpad injection with OVA, (b) OVA-specific anti-IgG1 and anti-IgG2a were determined in the serum, and (c) in vitro spleen cell proliferation was performed by stimulation with medium, Con A (0.5 and 1 μg/mL—final concentration) and OVA (1 and 10 μg/mL—final concentration).
