Mobility for the Internet of Things

Description

In the Internet of Things (IoT), each object, person, or entity has a virtual counterpart in internet. Beyond ubiquity, resilience, and other main features of IoT, there is also an accelerated tendency towards mobility of devices, either being transported by humans (smartphones are an example) or by another carrier, or being mobile by itself, like a robot or a UAV. Therefore, it appears to be useful to concentrate on state of the art of the mobile devices that nowadays are connected to Internet and in the future will be a major part of the IoT, in order to underline which protocols, architectures, and technologies will be more useful. Mobile devices can also be seen in a cloud computing environment; the result can be seen as Mobile Cloud Computing that is also interesting here, with a specific reference to IoT.

The global focus is not only on commercial devices, operating systems, and middleware; prototypes both hardware and software will be welcome in this special issue, also in order to disseminate ideas and new results emerging from funded projects.
