Emerging Technologies for Audio and Acoustic Signal Processing and Applications

This issue is now closed for submissions.

Description

Humans experience sounds in their daily lives. Among all sounds, audio and acoustic signals are the most important ones for the technologies of information and communication applications. Applications concerning audio and acoustic signals, including human-computer interface, musical applications, robotics, hearing aids, and health care become increasingly popular. Recently, research in the field focuses on numerous topics such as audio and speech recognition, speech to text (STT)/text to speech (TTS), signal enhancement, noise cancellation, audio and acoustic signals recording and reproduction, sound synthesis and modification, sound information measurement and retrieval, and audio security.

Technologies that can timely model, reproduce, and mediate audio and acoustic signals are important to make these applications or instruments available in life. Measurement data play a fundamental role in the fields of audio and acoustic signal processing and are commonly collected with the characterizes of large volumes, velocities, and varieties. To perform real-time processing of these signals, feature extraction that extracts the signal of interest and deletes redundant information will be more crucial than before. Usually, the complexity and large volume of data are required to develop advanced analysis and systems. Fortunately, due to the hardware and software development of information technologies in recent years, many technologies become more feasible than before. It is then promising to explore some effective methods implemented for practical applications in audio and acoustic signal processing through information technologies.

This Special Issue is hence focusing on emerging technologies for signal processing applications from industry and practice perspectives, including the use of advanced methods and devices to show recent research in audio and acoustic signal processing. This Special Issue also aims to bring together researchers in this area to break down barriers and develop innovative realizable solutions and algorithms. Original research and review articles are both welcome.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Acoustic noise separation/reduction
  • Active/passive noise control
  • Algorithm for digital/analog audio and acoustic processing
  • Artificial Intelligence processing for audio and acoustic signals
  • Audio and acoustic data coding/decoding
  • Audio feature extraction and analysis
  • Audio security
  • Autonomous system and robot audition applications
  • Bioacoustics
  • Classification/recognition for audio, language and sound signals
  • Detection and classification of acoustic scenes and events
  • Music analysis and information retrieval
  • Sound measurement and amplification
