High-Performance Computing Strategies for Complex Engineering Optimization Problems

Description

Managing computational effort (CPU time, memory, and interfacing) is a major issue in engineering design optimization problems, due to the cost of the high-fidelity numerical simulations (finite elements, finite volumes, etc.) involved. In order to decrease the overall cost of the optimization process, parallel algorithm, reduced-order models, or their combinations are an economical and efficient option.

This special issue will include theoretical, numerical, and experimental contributions that describe original research results and/or innovative concepts that address all aspects of complex engineering optimization problems. It is also available to concerned review/regular articles that will support and stimulate the continuing efforts to understand the research and development of high-performance computing strategies for different engineering fields. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Parallel algorithms
  • Reduced order modeling
  • Optimization algorithms
  • Finite volume method (FVM) and relevant methods
  • Finite element method (FEM) and relevant methods
  • Molecular dynamics method (MD) and relevant methods
  • Monte Carlo method (MC) and relevant methods
  • Meshless methods or smoothed-particle hydrodynamics (SPH)
  • Multidisciplinary optimization or topological optimization
  • Multiscale simulation and analysis
  • Computational analysis for engineering problems
  • Other computing or modeling methods

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal’s Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/mpe/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/mpe/ceop/ according to the following timetable:
