The graphics (a) and (c) correspond to an orthogonal coordinate system , whereas (b) and (d) correspond to a non-orthogonal coordinate system . The non-orthogonality of entails a slight response of the verticals canals. This kind of response might be similar in the case of the existence of coupling terms between the canals due to fluid flow.
