(a) Dendrites grow “long spine-like processes,” once the synaptic contact occurs with a parallel fiber, spines develop a terminal head and the parallel fiber forms a swelling. (b) Parallel fibers often form long synaptic adhesions with developing spines that subsequently decrease in size (synaptic adhesion waning).
