Sample micrographs of Zif268 immunoreactivity in the primary auditory cortex (A1). There are a low number of Zif268 protein-positive neurons in A1 under conditions (a) and (c). Conversely, protein expression appears to be much higher under conditions AVE (b) and AVN (d). Unlike in V1, neurons in A1 appear to be driven in a modality-specific manner (i.e., by auditory stimuli alone) irrespective of the preexposure to audiovisual stimuli.
