Development and Structural Variety of the Chondroitin Sulfate Proteoglycans-Contained Extracellular Matrix in the Mouse Brain

Figure 6

Structural variety of CSPG-contained ECM structures. (a–l) Fluorescent triple labeling of WFA (green), Nissl (red, neuron marker), and DAPI (blue, nucleus marker) at 11 w. Arrows indicate WFA signals around dendrites. The sign of plus (+) or minus (−) below images indicates the presence or absence of WFA reactivity around somata and dendrites. WFA signals in the Cx (a), hippocampal CA1 (b), mRt (c), RN (d), Ve (e), Gi (f), Sp5 (g), and LH (h) were observed around both somata and dendrites, while those of the Rt (i), MA (j), VMH (k), and Arc (l) did not show clear reactivity surrounding dendrites. Arc: arcuate nucleus; Gi: gigantocellular nucleus; LH: lateral hypothalamus; MA: medial amygdaloid nucleus; mRt: mesencephalic reticular formation; RN: red nucleus; Rt: reticular thalamic nucleus; S1BF: barrel field of the primary somatosensory cortex; Sp5: spinal trigeminal nucleus; Ve: vestibular nucleus; VMH: ventromedial hypothalamic nucleus. Scale bar = 100 μm (a–l).
