Sleep Spindles as an Electrographic Element: Description and Automatic Detection Methods

A thalamocortical system to reconcile differences between EEG and MEG sleep spindles. The distribution of matrix cells (red) and core cells (blue) indicated in a frontal section through the middle of a macaque monkey thalamus. The core thalamic projections are topographically ordered to the middle layers of a single cortical field.
