Visualization of changes in mitochondrial membrane potential using mitochondria specific fluorescent probe JC-1. Mitochondria with intact membrane potential concentrates JC-1 into aggregates (J-aggregates, red fluorescence at 590 nm), whereas deenergized mitochondria cannot concentrate JC-1 (green fluorescence at 530 nm).
