Protective Role of Dietary Curcumin in the Prevention of the Oxidative Stress Induced by Chronic Alcohol with respect to Hepatic Injury and Antiatherogenic Markers

Influence of chronic ethanol, ω-3 PUFA, and curcumin on liver GSH level in rats fed low and high ω-3 PUFA diets. The animals in the indicated groups () were pair-fed their respective Lieber-DeCarli alcohol containing liquid diets supplemented with the indicated concentration of curcumin for 8 weeks after which the animals were killed and each liver was analyzed for reduced GSH level in liver quantified as described in Section 2. The data are Means ± SEM. Statistical significance of variance was calculated using t-test with Bonferroni correction; compared to corresponding LFO or HFO group; compared to the corresponding LFOE or HFOE group.
