Determination of cell death in BALF cells. (a) Freshly isolated nucleated cells ( cells/mL) from BALF of WT and MPO KO mice treated for 36 h by intranasal application of LPS (0.3 mg/kg) or cells 5 h after isolation were evaluated by flow cytometry using Annexin V/PI staining. Values represent mean from 4 mice with significant difference between Annexin V+ cells in BALF from WT and MPO KO mice (). (b) Representative scatterplots from flow cytometric analysis. Cells were classified as either viable (lower left quartile, Annexin V/PI) cells with detectable expression of PS (lower right quartile, Annexin V+/PI) or dead cells with permeable membrane (upper left and right quartile, PI+).
