Oregano Essential Oil Induces SOD1 and GSH Expression through Nrf2 Activation and Alleviates Hydrogen Peroxide-Induced Oxidative Damage in IPEC-J2 Cells

Figure 1

Oregano essential oil (OEO) inhibits hydrogen peroxide- (H2O2-) induced cytotoxicity in IPEC-J2 cells. (a) IPEC-J2 cells were incubated with OEO (1.25–80 μg/mL) for 3–24 h. Cell viability was determined by MTT assay. (b) IPEC-J2 cells were incubated with H2O2 (0.2–1.2 mmol) for 3–24 h. Cell viability was determined by MTT assay. (c) IPEC-J2 cells were incubated with OEO (2.5–10 μg/mL) for 24 h and then incubated with 0.8 mM H2O2 for 24 h. The protective effects of OEO were evaluated by MTT assay. (d) IPEC-J2 cells were incubated with OEO (2.5–10 μg/mL) for 24 h and then incubated with 0.8 mM H2O2 for 24 h. The protective effects of OEO were evaluated by lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release assay. Values represent means ± SEM, . , , and , compared with untreated control cells; means without a common letter differ, .
