AGEs upregulate the expression of profilin-1, activate RhoA/ROCK1 signaling, and stimulate the production of ROS. Treatment with ROS scavenger, RhoA/ROCK1 signaling inhibitor, or profilin-1-specific shRNA (sh-profilin-1) abolished the positive feedback loop.
