Edaravone Improves Septic Cardiac Function by Inducing an HIF-1α/HO-1 Pathway

Figure 3

Effect of the HIF-1α antagonist on oxidative stress in edaravone-pretreated septic rats. Edaravone (EDA) at high (H) dose was injected intravenously 10 minutes before CLP, while the HIF-1α antagonist, ME, was injected intraperitoneally after CLP. Protein expressions of (a–c) HIF-1α and HO-1 were assessed in the myocardium. Myocardium architecture and lipid peroxidation level were visualized by (d) H&E staining (×400) and (e) 4-HNE staining (×200), respectively. Levels of (f) MDA concentration and (g) catalase activity were also evaluated in the myocardium. versus Sham. versus CLP. versus CLP + H-EDA.
