[Retracted] 5-Aminolevulinic Acid-Based Photodynamic Therapy Pretreatment Mitigates Ultraviolet A-Induced Oxidative Photodamage

UVA-induced oxidative damage was reduced with ALA-PDT pretreatment. (a, b) Cells were treated with a sublethal dose of ALA-PDT, then these cells were irradiated with 10 J/cm2 of UVA light. Cells were incubated with 10 μmmol/L DCFH-DA or 5 μmmol/L Dihydroethidium for 20 min, after which ROS and O2− production was visualized by fluorescence microscopy. Intracellular ROS and O2− species exhibited green and red fluorescence under a fluorescence microscope; the fluorescence intensity was determined by a fluorescence microplate reader.
