Zinc-Induced SUMOylation of Dynamin-Related Protein 1 Protects the Heart against Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury

Figure 2

SUMO1 and SENP2 play an important role in the cardioprotective effect of zinc on H/R injury. Compared with the H/R group, zinc attenuated apoptosis by increasing the Bcl2/Bax ratio and decreasing the cleaved caspase3/caspase3 ratio, which were abolished by SUMO1 siRNA (a, b; ) and overexpressed with SENP2 (c, d; ). Compared with the H/R group, zinc inhibited the decrease of mitochondrial membrane potential detected by JC-1, which was abolished by SUMO1 siRNA (a, b; ) and overexpressed with SENP2 (e, f; ). Scale bar: 10 μm. vs. control; vs. H/R. vs. H/R+zinc. H/R: hypoxia/reoxygenation; NC: negative control.
