Age-Dependent Oxidative Stress Elevates Arginase 1 and Uncoupled Nitric Oxide Synthesis in Skeletal Muscle of Aged Mice

<div>Aging increases arginase activity and mRNA expression in muscles. (a) Arginase activity was determined using an assay for urea formation in muscle lysates from young and old muscles, and (b) real-time PCR analysis of Arg1 mRNA in young and old mice. Data for each sample were normalized to GAPDH mRNA and represented as the fold change in expression compared to young mice.
