Berberine Alleviates Amyloid β-Induced Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Synaptic Loss

Figure 6

Berberine protects against Aβ1–42-induced synaptic loss in primary cultured hippocampal neurons. Neurons treatment with vehicle, oligomeric Aβ1–42 (0.5 μM), or oligomeric Aβ1-42+berberine (1.0 μM) were immunostained for MAP2 and synaptophysin. (a) Representative images for neurons and synapses showed colocalization of synaptophysin and MAP2. Scale . (b) Quantification of synaptophysin immunoreactivity. vs. the vehicle-treated group, vs. the Aβ-treated group. Values are expressed as the error of the mean of 4 independent experiments; 8 neurons per group.
