Bivariate (Pearson) correlation analysis between oxidative stress markers, PCT, CRP, and stage of disease (sepsis or septic shock). Correlation is considered present if the value was equal or below 0.05 (), and the degree and direction of association were expressed as the coefficient of correlation ( values always range between -1 (strong negative relationship) and +1 (strong positive relationship), and values at or close to zero imply weak or no linear relationship).
