Water-Soluble Pristine C₆₀ Fullerenes Inhibit Liver Fibrotic Alteration and Prevent Liver Cirrhosis in Rats

The scheme of the experiment. Experimental groups were as follows (from top to bottom): control 10 weeks (); fibrosis 10 weeks, fibrosis and cirrhosis development (); fibrosis+C₆₀FAS 10 weeks, C₆₀FAS was applied for 8 weeks (); control 15 weeks (); cirrhosis 15 weeks, definitive cirrhosis, initiation of cell malignant degeneration (); and cirrhosis+C₆₀FAS 15 weeks, C₆₀FAS was applied for 13 weeks (). Doses and solvents: DEN: 200 mg/kg in saline (total volume 0.1 ml), CCl₄: 1 ml/kg in sunflower oil (total volume 0.2-0.6 ml depending on body weight), C₆₀FAS: 0.25 mg/kg (0.2-0.5 ml depending on body weight), saline: 0.1 ml (instead of DEN) or 0.2-0.5 ml (instead of C₆₀FAS), sunflower oil: 0.2-0.6 ml depending on body weight.
