In total, 76 patients were enrolled, of whom 16 dropped out of the study after randomization (shorter CPB than planned in 6 patients, surgical complications of thoracotomy and secondary chest closure in 5, irregular randomization in 1, heavily calcified large blood vessels that made cannulation impossible for CPB in 1, and loss of follow-up in 3).
