Changes in Hepcidin Levels in an Animal Model of Anemia of Chronic Inflammation: Mechanistic Insights Related to Iron Supplementation and Hepcidin Regulation

Figure 10

The effect of iron treatment on the phosphorylation of the signal transducer and activator of transcription-3 (STAT-3), sma mothers against decapentaplegic 1/5 (SMAD1/5), and hepcidin and ferritin protein levels in HepG2 cells. The dose of iron was increased from 0 to 10 mg/mL, and the iron-induced effects on HepG2 cells were examined using immunoblot analysis. The relative protein levels were quantified using densitometry. P-STAT-3: phosphorylated STAT-3; P-SMAD: phosphorylated SMAD; GAPDH: glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase. compared with the control group.
