Western blot analysis was performed using HepG2 cells transfected with control small interfering RNA (siRNA) or siRNA against signal transducer and activator of transcription-3 (STAT-3) and sma mothers against decapentaplegic 1/5 (SMAD1/5) to investigate hepcidin expression after iron treatment (2.5 mg/mL).
