Fucoxanthin Attenuates Oxidative Damage by Activating the Sirt1/Nrf2/HO-1 Signaling Pathway to Protect the Kidney from Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury

Figure 6

Fucoxanthin upregulated Sirt1, Nrf2, and HO-1 protein expression after renal I/R injury in mice, and EX527 suppressed the effect of fucoxanthin. The I/R model was established with 45 minutes of ischemia and 24 hours of reperfusion. Mice were treated with 100 mg/kg of fucoxanthin or 5 mg/kg of EX527. (a)–(d) Effect of fucoxanthin on Sirt1, Nrf2, and HO-1 protein expression and their quantitative analysis. (e)–(h) Effect of coadministration of fucoxanthin and EX527 on Sirt1, Nrf2, HO-1 protein expression, and their quantitative analysis. (i) Representative images of immunofluorescence staining of Sirt1 in kidney tissues (magnification × 400; ). (j) Representative images of immunofluorescence staining of Nrf2 in kidney tissues (magnification ×400; ). Values are expressed as , . compared with Sham group, # compared with group, $ compared with IR group, & compared with group.
