Description

Phytochemicals are natural molecules originating from plants. Epidemiological and clinical evidence have shown that bioactive phytochemicals (e.g., alkaloids, flavonoids, polysaccharides, terpenoids, stilbenoids, and saponins) may offer considerable health benefits.

Phytochemical-based discoveries highlight biodiversity of resources, structural and chemical diversity. Moreover, these discoveries show that phytochemicals are biocompatible and biologically validated. It proves that they can be efficient and safe for usage in traditional medicines and in other applications. Oxidative stress is initiated when there is an unbalance between reactive oxygen species (ROS) and antioxidants. It is also generated when antioxidant enzymes existing endogenously in the body are reduced. This results in endothelial cell damage.

The aim of this Special Issue is to attract original research articles and review articles focusing on how phytochemicals prevent and treat oxidative stress-induced diseases (cancer, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases). We encourage cell, animal, and clinical studies. We also welcome reviews discussing the role of phytochemicals in the prevention and treatment of diseases via regulating oxidative stress.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Effects of phytochemicals on ROS in vitro and in vivo
  • Phytochemicals targeted signaling pathways on oxidative stress
  • The role of phytochemicals in mitigating oxidative stress
  • Mechanism of bioactivity of phytochemicals

  • Phytochemicals in the regulation of immunological systems via regulating oxidative stress
  • Anticancer effect of phytochemicals via regulating oxidative stress

  • Anti-obesity effect of phytochemicals via regulating oxidative stress
