<i>Introduction</i>. Male breast cancer is rare and frequently diagnosed at later stages of disease with low survival rates. There is a lack of knowledge of how breast cancer impacts men’s occupations. <i>Objectives</i>. This study is aimed at understanding the lived experiences of men with breast cancer and their changes in occupation. <i>Methodology</i>. Twenty-four men with breast cancer participated in semistructured phone interviews. Data was open-coded and analyzed for themes. <i>Findings</i>. The six major themes are as follows: (1) death as a reality, (2) unique personal insights, (3) social environment, (4) interactions with the healthcare system, (5) decreased engagement in occupations, and (6) finding meaning in new occupations. <i>Conclusion</i>. The healthcare team can improve the patient experience by discussing and responding to the client’s experience throughout the diagnosis, intervention, and survival continuum. The scope of occupational therapy is well suited to address the needs of men with breast cancer to maintain optimal levels of functioning.

Men’s Lived Experiences of Breast Cancer and Changes in Occupation

<i>Objective</i>. The purpose is to understand the depression status of the elderly in the community, explore its influencing factors, formulate a comprehensive psychological intervention plan according to the influencing factors, implement demonstration psychological intervention, and evaluate and feedback the effect, so as to provide a reference for improving the mental health of the elderly. <i>Method</i>. In order to make the output of different emotional data in LSTM more discriminative, a method to dynamically filter the output of LSTM is proposed. Combining the methods of Attention-LSTM, time-dimensional AI attention, and feature-dimensional AI attention, the best model in this paper is obtained. The multistage stratified cluster sampling method was used to conduct a questionnaire survey on the elderly aged 60 and above in a certain area, including the general demographic characteristics questionnaire of the elderly, the self-rating scale of mental health symptoms, and the health self-management ability of adults. All data were entered into a database using Excel software, and SPSS 19.0 statistical software was used for statistical analysis. <i>Results/Discussion</i>. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that family history of mental illness, more negative life events, decreased ability of daily living, living alone, and suffering from physical diseases in the past six months were the risk factors for depression in the elderly. Community health education can partially alleviate depression in the elderly. Evaluation and Analysis of Elderly Mental Health Based on Artificial Intelligence

<i>Objective.</i> This study is aimed at translating and cross-culturally adapting the Drooling Infants and Preschoolers Scale (DRIPS) into Korean cultural context and examine the content validity and reliability of the Korean version, which is referred as K-DRIPS. <i>Methods.</i> An iterative forward-backward translation sequence of the DRIPS was performed by 20 Korean health professional experts (i.e., occupational therapists (OTs) and professors) with more than 10 years of experience. The study subjects were 77 children with cerebral palsy (CP) exhibiting drooling symptoms aged 2-7 years. They were recruited from two children’s rehabilitation hospitals in Korea and completed the K-DRIPS. The content validity and internal consistency of the K-DRIPS items were examined. <i>Results.</i> An assessment with 20 K-DRIPS items was adequately and cross-culturally adapted into Korea. Development of the Korean Version of the Drooling Infants and Preschoolers Scale

<i>Introduction</i>. Motor imagery and mental practice can be defined as a continuous mechanism in which the subject tries to emulate a movement using cognitive processes, without actually performing the motor action. The objective of this review was to analyse and check the efficacy of motor imagery and/or mental practice as a method of rehabilitating motor function in patients that have suffered a stroke, in both subacute and chronic phases. <i>Material and Methods</i>. We performed a bibliographic search from 2009 to 2021 in the following databases, Medline (PubMed), Scopus, WOS, Cochrane, and OTSeeker. The search focused on randomized clinical trials in which the main subject was rehabilitating motor function of the upper limb in individuals that had suffered a stroke in subacute or chronic phases. <i>Results</i>. We analysed a total of 11 randomized clinical trials, with moderate and high methodological quality according to the PEDro scale. Most of the studies on subacute and chronic stages obtained statistically significant short-term results, between pre- and postintervention, in recovering function of the upper limb. <i>Conclusions</i>. Motor imagery and/or mental practice, combined with conventional therapy and/or with other techniques, can be effective in the short term in recovering upper limb motor function in patients that have suffered a stroke. More studies are needed to analyse the efficacy of this intervention during medium- and long-term follow-up.

Motor Imagery and Mental Practice in the Subacute and Chronic Phases in Upper Limb Rehabilitation after Stroke: A Systematic Review

A sensory processing approach can be used to intervene with behaviours in individuals with autistic symptoms. However, neural mechanisms linking sensory processing patterns and autistic features are less understood. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether frontal alpha asymmetry could mediate the relationship between atypical sensory processing and autistic traits. Seventy-three neurotypical young adults were included in this study. Resting-state brain activity was recorded using electroencephalography. After the recording, participants completed the Adolescent/Adult Sensory Profile and the Autism-Spectrum Quotient. Frontal alpha asymmetry was calculated by subtracting left frontal alpha power from right frontal alpha power. Correlation analysis was performed to find which sensory processing patterns were related to frontal alpha asymmetry and autistic traits. Mediation analysis was then conducted with sensory avoiding patterns as an independent variable, autistic traits as a dependent variable, and frontal alpha asymmetry as a mediator. Interrelations between higher sensation avoiding patterns, greater right-sided cortical activity, and increased autistic traits were found. The sensation avoiding patterns affected autistic traits directly and indirectly through right-sided cortical activity. Findings of the current study demonstrate a mediating role of frontal alpha asymmetry in the relationship between sensation avoiding patterns and autistic traits in neurotypical adults. This study suggests that sensation avoiding patterns and withdrawal-related emotions, which are associated with right-sided cortical activity, need to be considered to improve autism symptoms.

Sensory Processing and Autistic Traits: Mediation Effect of Frontal Alpha Asymmetry

<i>Introduction.</i> The Kawa Model is a conceptual occupational therapy model of practice that uses the metaphor of a river as a medium to support the exploration of self, life events, and environment. In this study, the Kawa Model was used by occupational therapy students during a practice placement in a remote community setting as a tool to support learning, build self-awareness, and promote reflection on personal and professional development. <i>Method</i>. The study used an exploratory qualitative research design. Six student participants were purposively recruited and orientated to the use of the Kawa Model at the beginning and throughout their remote community practice placement. Semistructured interviews were used to collect data which were analysed thematically using interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). <i>Findings</i>. Analysis of the student transcripts revealed three overarching themes: self-awareness, the development of personal and professional skills, and working with metaphor. All students identified the model as a reflective tool that enhanced their understanding of their student selves in a remote setting. The students described the growth of various professional skills including communication, goal planning, and confidence. Whilst initially students found the metaphor challenging to fathom, throughout their placement, they found it impactful for comprehending their development of self. <i>Conclusion</i>. This study revealed that the students’ self-awareness and personal and professional development were influenced by their engagement with and application of the Kawa Model. Repeated engagement with the Kawa Model enhanced the students’ journey of personal and professional skill development.

The Kawa Model: A Self-Reflection Tool for Occupational Therapy Student Development in Practice Placements in Australia

<i>Aim.</i> To explore the effect of an Early Intensive-Upper Limb intervention (EI-UL) compared to EI-UL with integrated Multisensory Stimulation And Priming (MuSSAP) training on improving manual ability in infants with a unilateral brain lesion. <i>Method.</i> A pilot randomised clinical trial with pre- and postintervention and follow-up measurements (T0, T1, and T2) was conducted. Sixteen infants with a unilateral brain lesion (corrected age is 4-10 months) received home-based intervention with video coaching. Eight infants received EI-UL and eight infants received EI-UL with integrated MuSSAP training. Primary outcome was the Hand Assessment for Infants (HAI) score. Additionally, effects were explored on initiation of goal-directed movements in both groups and on attention in the EI-UL with integrated MuSSAP training group. <i>Results.</i> No significant group differences in HAI scores were found. Overall, HAI ‘Affected hand score’ increased between T0 and T1 (<span class="inline_break"><svg xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" width="18.973pt" intervention, six infants (three in both groups) did not demonstrate initiation of goal-directed contralesional upper limb movements. During the intervention one infant receiving EI-UL and all three infants receiving EI-UL with integrated MuSSAP training started to initiate goal-directed movements. <i>Conclusion</i>. The results suggest manual ability of infants with unilateral brain lesion improved with both interventions. We hypothesize that the integrated MuSSAP training may facilitate attention and initiation of contralesional upper limb goal-directed movements. This trial is registered with <a target="_blank" href="https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT05533476">NCT05533476</a>).
