Comparison of processed topography images of the Cu sample in Figures 1(a) and 1(b): (a) slow scan rate (2 msec per pixel) data averaged over forward and backward scans; (b) processed data using the algorithm presented in this paper from the fast scan rate (0.1 msec per pixel) data shown in Figure 1. Scan drift is clearly visible in (a), appearing as a gradual change in the height (represented by the color) of a plateau. There is no visible scan drift in (b).
