Expansion capacity of cNPC cells in long-term culture. Cells were cultured in 1 of 2 proliferation media of differing composition and counted at each passage using a hemocytometer. The number of cells in SM medium (red) increased initially, then began to drop shortly after day 20, with no measurable proliferation beyond 1 month. In contrast, cultures grown in UM (blue) exhibited sustained growth throughout the course of the study (143 days), with no evidence of senescence. The rate of expansion did not diminish with passage number. Numbers on 𝑥-axis represent days in culture at each passage, the 𝑦-axis shows cell number as total estimated yield.
