lincRNA-p21 regulates the transition of pre-iPSCs to iPSCs. During reprogramming, the induction of endogenous pluripotency genes is necessary to achieve a self-sustaining status in which the core regulatory factors act in a positive feedback loop on their own expression. lincRNA-p21 hinders this transition by recruiting an inhibitory complex, which deposits repressive marks such as H3K9me3 and CpG methylation on the promoters of pluripotency regulators [62].
