GGF-2 is not sufficient alone to maintain a spindle-shaped morphology, and FGF-2 is necessary to produce the Schwann-like morphology. (a) Undifferentiated cells display a flattened, fibroblast-like appearance. (b) dASC⁺ elongate and take on a spindle shape. (c) dASC^−/+GGF revert to a stem-like morphology, as do (d) dASC^+/−FGF and (e) dASC⁻, whilst (f) dASC^+/−GGF, (g) dASC^{+/−forskolin}, and (h) dASC^+/−PDGF all retain a spindle-shaped appearance.
