Scheme of coculture experiment of human osteoarthritic (OA) cartilage explants (CE) derived from cartilage remaining after joint replacement surgery, cultured alone or together with adipose tissue-derived stem cells (ASC) in monolayer. Experiments were performed in the following: (1) incomplete chondrocyte medium (IM), (2) IM supplemented with 2% human platelet growth factor-enriched plasma (PP), and (3) in IM + PP with interleukin- (IL-) 1β.
