Immunophenotyping of HUVECs cultured in standard conditions (ECM, 2D). Virtually, all cells expressed CD31 and CD146, but none expressed of CD271 ((a); histograms representative of three independent experiments). When the expression of CD34 was assessed in a single HUVEC population (b), only 5.9% of the cells were found to be positive. Histograms drawn in black represent negative controls. Histograms drawn in red represent the expression of the abovementioned molecules by the cell populations. Overlapping curves represent populations of cells that do not express the tested markers.
