Adipose Tissue-Derived Stem Cells Have the Ability to Differentiate into Alveolar Epithelial Cells and Ameliorate Lung Injury Caused by Elastase-Induced Emphysema in Mice

Figure 2

Homing and engraftment of ADSCs in the lung of emphysematous model mice. (a) Protocol of emphysema induction in model mice. Emphysema was induced in C57BL/6 mice by intratracheal administration of elastase (porcine pancreatic elastase (PPE), 1.5 IU/mouse). After 3 days, ADSCs were intravenously administered ( cells/mouse) at days 0 and 1. Histological analysis was conducted on days 7, 14, and 21. (b) The number of ADSCs was counted on day 7, day 14, and day 21 after administration of ADSC to the PPE- group and PPE+ group to compare the GFP+ engraftment in the lung (). . Scale bars: 500 μm. HPF: high-power fields, ×20. (c) Representative images of GFP-labeled ADSCs in the lung of the PPE- group and PPE+ group on days 7, 14, and 21 side by side. Scale bars in low power fields are 500 μm and in high-power fields are 50 μm.
