Artificial Intelligence for Evaluation Decision-making in Modern Product Design

This issue is now closed for submissions.

Description

The rapid development of artificial intelligence technology has greatly influenced the field of modern product design and has promoted the development of intelligent design. Artificial intelligence technology is frequently used in design activities and participates in all aspects of design. Design evaluation is one of the important aspects of design that runs throughout the whole design process. Design evaluation refers to the determination of the value of the design object, which is the process of comparing the design object with its corresponding value standard to clarify the value. The creative design process is accompanied by a large degree of evaluation and decision-making. Traditional design evaluation methods are often conducted manually and mainly rely on an individual’s experience and intuition. Therefore, evaluation results are affected by an individual’s knowledge and other factors, resulting in subjectivity.

With the explosive growth of intelligent design, it is unrealistic to evaluate large-scale design results manually, which cannot support design optimization in a timely and effective manner. The design evaluation method enabled by artificial intelligence can quantify the multi-dimensional contents such as design knowledge and user perception, establish a unified evaluation index, realize more detailed design analysis and evaluation, and improve the accuracy and objectivity of evaluation results. In addition, artificial intelligence can effectively make up for the efficiency of traditional methods. However, due to the characteristic differences between artificial intelligence and creative design, artificial intelligence still has many challenges in the face of design evaluation. With consideration of intelligent design, the means to abstract the subjective and ambiguous open evaluation problem into a data-driven closed problem is the focus of design evaluation research and application.

Therefore, the aim of this Special Issue is to welcome original research and review articles with a focus on applying advanced artificial intelligence and scientific programming approaches for evaluation decision-making in modern product design. This Special Issue aims to provide novel guidance for artificial intelligence researchers and broaden the perspectives of artificial intelligence and evaluation decision-related researchers.
