The Effects of Heart and Skeletal Muscle Inflammation and Cardiomyopathy Syndrome on Creatine Kinase and Lactate Dehydrogenase Levels in Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar L.)

Figure 3

The box plots of all seven groups of Atlantic salmon on the basis of (a) total inflammation and (b) total necrosis in the heart and skeletal muscle ( 𝑁 = 1 7 3 ). Group 1 ( 𝑛 = 2 8 ) and group 2 ( 𝑛 = 1 6 ) represented fish from an acute and late phase of a HSMI outbreak, respectively, while group 3 ( 𝑛 = 3 1 ) represented values from fish from an early phase of HSMI, and group 4 ( 𝑛 = 3 0 ) included chronic CMS fish. Group 5 ( 𝑛 = 2 8 ), group 6 ( 𝑛 = 2 0 ), and group 7 ( 𝑛 = 2 0 ) represented values from nondiseased (non-HSMI) fish. Higher scores of inflammation and necrosis were found in diseased (groups 1, 2, 3, and 4) fish while low levels of scores in nondiseased (groups 5, 6, and 7) fish were present. Bars with different letters represented significant differences between groups ( 𝑃 < 0 . 0 5 ). (∘) denotes outliers.
