Data are presented as mean ± SD; %: percentage of the European Respiratory Society’s predicted value; TLC: total lung capacity; VC: vital capacity; FVCex: forced vital capacity in exertion; FVCin: forced vital capacity in insertion; A: actual value in litres; three subjects (one able-bodied and two mild scoliotics, 2.8% of the whole group) were unable to perform three measurements within acceptable repeatability; thus data for 141 subjects are presented.
