High-Dose Amoxicillin with Clavulanate for the Treatment of Acute Otitis Media in Children

Table 3

Factors relevant to poor outcome of acute otitis media ( ) by multivariate analysis (binary logistic regression model).

Variables valueOR of failed control (95% CI)

Girls0.211.61 (0.77–3.36)
Weight*0.480.98 (0.93–1.04)
Autumn/winter0.02**2.47 (1.17–5.23)
Bilateral AOM0.091.96 (0.91–4.19)
Underdose0.581.45 (0.38–5.53)

Abbreviations: AOM: acute otitis media; OR: odds ratio; CI: confidence interval. Reference groups in model: boys, illnesses in spring/summer, single-sided AOM, or high dose. Age showed high collinearity with body weight in the model. Since antibiotics were given mainly based on body weight, weight was chosen instead of age in the regression model. .
