Plesiomonas: A Review on Food Safety, Fish-Borne Diseases, and Tilapia

Direct plaque quantification of Plesiomonas in food samples [75]. GN medium consists of 3 layers of approximately 2 cm each, placed in a sterile culture tube. The bottom layer is bile and red violet glucose agar. The middle layer is agar-water, and the top layer is sulfide indole motility (SIM) agar. Glucose fermentation in positive GN medium (turning of the bile and red violet glucose agar medium in the lower layer of the tube). P. shigelloides is SH2- and indole-positive, but these characteristics are not shown in GN medium. In GN medium, the mobile species develop, forming diffuse growth along the inoculation streaking line or more intense turbidity.
