Direct plaque quantification of Plesiomonas in food samples [75]. ∗GN medium consists of 3 layers of approximately 2 cm each, placed in a sterile culture tube. The bottom layer is bile and red violet glucose agar. The middle layer is agar-water, and the top layer is sulfide indole motility (SIM) agar. ∗Glucose fermentation in positive GN medium (turning of the bile and red violet glucose agar medium in the lower layer of the tube). ∗P. shigelloides is SH2- and indole-positive, but these characteristics are not shown in GN medium. ∗In GN medium, the mobile species develop, forming diffuse growth along the inoculation streaking line or more intense turbidity.
