Emerging Trends in Soft Set Theory and Related Topics
Description
The capability for making sensible decisions under uncertainty is an essential factor of human intelligence. The meaning and utility of uncertainty have been pondered by theoreticians and practitioners for more than two millennia. With the development of modern science and technology, mathematical modeling of various uncertainties becomes one of the hottest research areas. The concept of uncertainty is too complicated to be captured within a single framework. In contrast, a number of different approaches including probability theory, fuzzy sets, and rough sets have been developed, which cope with uncertainty from distinct angles of views like randomness, gradualness, and granulation, respectively.
Molodtsov's soft set theory is a relatively new mathematical model for dealing with uncertainty from a parameterization point of view. By means of parameterization, a soft set produces a series of approximate descriptions for a complicated object being perceived from different aspects. This captures the intuitive idea which we utilize to understand and manipulate concepts of high complexity and uncertainty. It is also interesting to see that soft sets are closely related to soft computing models such as rough sets and fuzzy sets. In recent years, there has been a rapid growth of interest in soft sets and their various applications to algebraic structures, ontology, topology, Perron integration, operations research, game theory, data analysis, knowledge acquisition, clustering, forecasting, medical diagnosis, and decision making under uncertainty.
This special issue solicits the latest theoretical and practical achievements that represent emerging trends in soft set theory and related topics. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Soft set theory and its various applications
