Wireless and Computing Technologies for Future Sustainable Energy Systems

Description

Green energy is the only solution for future sustainability and is taking the lead in all sectors. In all systems of energy storage and conversion, ample challenges are encountered and worldwide researchers are focusing on converging these issues. The major challenge faced by both energy storage and conversion systems relies on the use of expensive electrocatalyst materials, which is hindering its commercialization to a larger extent. The advent of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) reduces the experimentation time to fundamental knowledge. Linking ML and AI will render a paramount support for fuel cell design and optimization, battery technology, supercapacitors, system control, and power management. The fuel cell operation performance, reliability, safety, and its business opportunities can be explored by coupling the system with IoTs. At the same, a dependable and economical power back-up is in high demand. The wireless communication systems play a vital role in energy storage sector.

The unpredictable conventional electric grid loss, mainly due to climatic conditions, urges for a sustainable way of electricity. Henceforth, clean fuel cell technology has been emerged as a solution to the limitations of traditional backup power solutions. Fuel cells which are powering vehicles are also entering into the mobile application. The possibilities are endless and there are many other uses for fuel cells nowadays. As electric vehicles are taking a lead in the market from the aspect of climate change and scarcity of fuel. Wireless communication has a great impact on Battery Management Systems (BMS). The data links in the BMS can be obtained by wireless system. Additionally, the use of metal resources like copper and aluminum can be overcome by avoiding wiring and using ICT equipment’s. This will also make an improvement in assembly/maintenance and fuel efficiency. Supercapacitors and wireless charging functions are regarded as integrated energy storage microdevices. Such a system will reduce the physical electrode contact damage to the microelectronic equipment’s and opens a wide range of application opportunities.

Therefore, this Special Issue will be focusing on bringing the cutting-edge research in the field of wireless communication for energy storage devices.
