Internet of Things in Multimedia Communication Systems

Description

Internet of Things (IoT) could be used worldwide with the popular use of multimedia communication systems. Recent approaches in the Internet of things (IoT) are giving unexpected solutions that once seemed impossible. Applications of the Internet of things (IoT) in multimedia communication systems will facilitate many new features in network management and operations.

Fifth-generation (5G) and beyond communication systems are expected to provide services with massive connectivity, ultra-low latency, extremely high security, extremely low energy consumption, and ultra-high data-rate. The varying IoT infrastructures (e.g., cloud, edge, fog) and the limitations of the communication protocols in transmitting/receiving messages become the barriers in creating an intelligent IoT system. These barriers prevent current intelligent communication applications to adaptively learn from other multimedia communication systems.

The aim of this Special Issue is to bring together research articles and review articles about the application of the Internet of Things in multimedia communication systems. Submissions can include big data analytics and new technologies for the Internet of things. They can also provide a comprehensive overview of the different IoT systems for multimedia communication systems. We hope that this Special Issue helps identify promising directions and future trends for those seeking to contribute to the future of the Internet of Things in multimedia communication systems.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Experimental validation of IoT solutions for multimedia communication systems
  • Data analytics/machine learning for IoT security in multimedia communication systems
  • Tools and frameworks for designing, deploying, and maintaining intelligent IoT networks in multimedia communication systems
  • Current and potential applications of IoT in multimedia communication systems
  • The effectiveness of combining 5G and IoT for multimedia communication systems
  • The effectiveness of combining 6G and IoT for multimedia communication systems
  • IoT using deep learning for multimedia communication systems
  • Novel algorithms, models, frameworks, and platforms in big-data-driven IoT for multimedia communication systems
  • Supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement learning for IoT in multimedia communication systems
  • Combination of IoT and big data analytics for multimedia communication systems in mitigating disasters, accidents, and environmental pollution
  • IoT protocol design and optimization for multimedia communication systems
