Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) Technologies and Applications

Description

AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things) is a relatively new term and has recently become a hot topic which combines two of the hottest acronyms, AI (Artificial Intelligence) and IoT (Internet of Things). IoT consists of interconnected things with built-in sensors and has the potential to generate or collect a vast amount of data. The data can be then analyzed and utilized with AI for problem solving or decision making. Without AI, IoT would have limited value. AI can multiply the value of IoT; conversely, IoT can promote the learning and intelligence of AI.

However, there are many challenges while deploying AIoT in practice. For instance, the edge computing issues for solving the latency of transmitting huge IoT data in networks and achieving real-time responses with high-performance AI for analyzing the huge data. Security issue is another crucial challenge to provide safety and privacy in AIoT applications. Machine learning is one of the possible technologies to be utilized in AIoT system protection. Besides, there are many other issues related to the increasing modern AIoT systems and applications.

Since the combination of AI and IoT, namely AIoT, has various potential applications in the real world, this Special Issue aims to solicit the submission of original research articles with a focus on challenging issues in the field of AIoT technologies and applications. Both theoretical and experimental contributions containing novel architectures, systems, algorithms, approaches, techniques, or applications with new insights and findings in the field of AIoT are welcome. Review articles which describe the current state of the art are especially welcome.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • AIoT for smart city and city brain
  • Large-scale sensor networks for AIoT
  • Cloud, edge, fog, and dew computing for AIoT
  • Machine learning and deep learning for AIoT
  • 5G technology enabled AIoT
  • Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) aided AIoT
  • Mobile computing and Location-Based Services (LBS) for AIoT
  • Security and privacy in AIoT
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms for AIoT
  • Internet of Things (IoT) technologies for AIoT
  • AIoT-based innovative applications and services
