Cloud Computing and IoT for Intelligent Applications
Description
Nowadays, Internet of Things and Cloud Computing are two very closely affiliated internet technologies that go hand in hand in non-trivial IoT deployments. Most modern IoT ecosystems are cloud-based, making cloud computing technology a catalyst for the design and deployment of scalable IoT models and applications. The convergence of the two technologies has brought considerable benefits such as improvement in work routines, enhancement of resource usage, and cost reduction. Application of IoT and cloud computing extends to all aspects, from medical and health related purposes, to home automation and building automation systems; from smart transportation systems to network controlled manufacturing and agriculture.
However, there are several concerns about the risks in the growth of IoT and cloud computing, especially in the areas of privacy and security. Most of the technical security concerns are similar to those of conventional servers, workstations, and smartphones. These risks are nonnegligible, as they span the technical, organizational, business, and legal aspects of organizations.
In this Special Issue, we aim at enhancing the interdisciplinary communications with the applications of cloud computing and IoT technology and promoting discussion on new solutions to the wide-spread challenges of cyber security. Original submissions and review articles on new applications of IoT and cloud computing technology as well as cyber security enhancements are welcomed.
