Endoplasmic Reticulum and Oxidative Stress as Molecular Mechanisms of Ocular Diseases

Description

Previous research indicates that endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, oxidative stress, and inflammation are the major molecular mechanisms of ocular degenerative diseases. Accumulating evidence reveals that specific factors may protect cells from ER/oxidative stress and may help ameliorate the disease.

Specific molecules can modulate the cellular pathways to reduce ER/oxidative stress. However, further studies of the detailed mechanisms underlying the role of those molecules on the regulation of ER/oxidative stress are needed.

In this Special Issue, we invite researchers to contribute original research articles and review articles with in vitro or in vivo data, as well as clinical studies, to address the mechanisms by which these factors/molecules regulate ER/oxidative stress.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • The role of genetic factors in the development of ER/oxidative stress-related ocular diseases
  • The role of nutritional factors in modulating ER/oxidative stress in ocular diseases
  • Development of therapeutic strategies to reduce ER/oxidative stress for the treatment of ocular diseases
