In the last two decades an increasing importance is given to the study of saliva. This is because, first of all, it is a fluid that, besides having constituents produced by the different salivary glands, possesses plasma borne molecules, some of which are present in amounts proportional to their levels in circulation; second, saliva presents the advantage of being noninvasive, with its collection easily accepted by the majority of individuals. This noninvasive nature of saliva is even more relevant for children or the elderly, where blood collection can involve fear and pain. These two points, together with technological and analytical advances, resulted in a high number of research teams working with this fluid, in different perspectives.

We invite authors to submit original research and review articles in the field of saliva research.
