Phoniatrics

Description

Phoniatrics is the medical specialty for communicative disorders. It is related to the normal and pathological processes that involve voice, speech, language, swallowing, and hearing. It is a discipline that combines the accumulation of knowledge from both medical and nonmedical fields of science.

The aim of this special issue is to increase the awareness of clinicians working in related fields to hearing, voice, speech, and language disturbances. Pathologies that affect any of the above-mentioned headings lead to a decreased quality of communication, learning, and expression, which are even more important in today’s society.

As the guest editors of this special issue, we invite all investigators and clinicians that are related to phoniatrics, to contribute with their original research, review, or clinical study.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Basics of phoniatrics: acoustics, aerodynamics, biomechanisms of voice, speech, swallowing, and hearing, fundamentals of voice training, neurological, psychiatric, and sociological basis of communication, voice ergonomics, and vocal hygiene
  • Voice disorders
  • Speech-articulation disorders
  • Fluency disorders
  • Hearing disorders
